Controversial I know but Badges are big talk nowadays. I mean think about it. Some of the best and most commercial properties online are driven by badging. Ebay did this back in the day. Although for some reason they stopped at giving people power seller ratings when they should have also given people power buying ratings too. Don’t underestimate bragging rights.

It’s one thing the internet is better at than any other real world platform. Remember when those flowers arrive at your house you have to invite people over for them to see them. Or remember when you used to have to meet all your friends one by one to show them how amazing your holiday was. Not any more. Users have mass bragging platforms at the click of the button.

So I say check out these guys

    http://basno.com

real limited edition badges that you can show anywhere.

Here is my badge for Peace. Its mine and no one else can have it – unless you want to buy it

  • Goodbye Music A&R

Controversial I know but was at this music conference last week where I happened upon a lovely lady who worked at a label – then she introduced me to her boss. The epitome of A&R, a little twat in an overcoat and hat who gave me the urge to want to punch him in the face within about 5 seconds of him opening his mouth.

But listen in general the people down there were weird and funny. There is one company I saw presented on stage called Songkick.com I urge you to check them out. What they do in short is connect you the user by analysing your music listening through iTunes to alert you when bands are playing.

Did you know that 40% of all tickets go unsold and the main reason is through non discover-ability. i.e. the fans didn’t know the gig was on but would have gone if they did.

Add to that the fact that for the first time ever last year the live music industry overtook recorded music sales. Now with sites like songklick.com I mean Jesus what is going to happen now. They are literally driving brand new revenue into the music industry whilst the labels try to eek out another penny from recorded.

Literally every music person at that conference should have been on thier knees for this company. It might literally save their soles.

Ho hum. Bye A&R men – you won’t be missed.

  • Wave goodbye Nokia

Controversial i know but i just Saw Nokia earlier basically sign there resignation from the mobile market. Self confessed they say their problem for the ova store is too many devices. Bye bye Nokia in the mobile market. I think they will move back to stationary or whatever else they used to make.

It’s been fun and I was a big fan but…..

  • Future Media

Controversial I know but this year has been the year that never was. Death of the original web series.

2008 setup a cracking prospect for this year but the recession killed all hopes.

Next year will be the true year of the original.

We are pitching multi-platform all the time and most brands gloss over the TV and get so excited by the digital spin off – why?

Well because it’s not about audience anymore it’s about the individual consumer.

Tv becomes display advertising pushing towards digital and interactive content to engage and transact with the consumer and this is the value back to the brand.

    Multi-platform becomes multi-access content.

  • Dead Soldiers

Controversial I know but these poor dead soldiers who were shot by the Afghan police they were training is surely the final sign that we this government has to do something about this war.

Tony Blair has so much blood on his hands and now during a week of rememberence instead of saving lives we continue to waste them.

Honestly all this war in the world is very upsetting. The reasons for entering it are usually hidden by religeon or because we are supposedly helping.

Instead it’s greed and money. And these poor soldiers are spending their lives training amateur police just so they can be corrupt and run riot placing the people of Afghanistan in more danger.

How futile. Such a waste of so many people time, effort and money.

While I’m on this subject. Can u really blame those people for vandalising the poppy campaign poster.

It’s a dreadful thing to have had to fight in the second world war. But we didn’t have a choice. We have a choice now. We need to be vocal and shout out against this before there is more blood on these greedy politicians hands.

  • Just watched Question Time on iPlayer

Controversial I know but what scared me more was Jack Straws response to the question:

Are more people voting BNP as a response to misjudged policies from Labour on Immigration?

To which Jack Straw answered Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blurrrrgggg rubbish blah back in 1960 blah blah

I mean I think that answered the question right.  Grow some balls and say yes I mean WTF are you thinking.  In a recession the people need comfort and they need answers.  It’s like any employee, employer relationship during redundancy for example.  Clear and regular information is key.  Unfortunately the BNP are doing this right now by targeting a specific issue which is important to the people.

If Jack continues to answer these questions n that way they are not going to help win those people back and by god for the sack of humanity they need to.

Also all the hype about Nick being on the show I mean come on does t really matter.  Who is going to watch it?  basically supporters and haters of both extremes so not much chance of turning any of them either way – I’m still going to vote conservative

  • Why did people want me to read the Daily Mail?

Controversial I know but why did people spend all last week trying to get me to read the Daily Mail?

Apparently someone wrote an article about Stephen Gately.  I haven’t read it but I feel like I have from all the quotes that have been spouted at me over the last week.

Look I am not a fan of the Daily Mail and I’d rather not read it.  Yet whilst happily cruising twitter I was barraged with tweets from people some good friends telling me I must sign a petition on the press complaints commission about an article I hadn’t read and had no inclination to either.

What gives people the right to abuse their powerful and trusting relationship they have with friends for their own misguided gain.

In a week that is hot for British democracy suddenly the world goes nuts and almost forces a policy down my throat when I choose not to engage wth that media.

As they used to say in the old days to Mary Whitehouse – If it’s not your cup of tea then switch it off – no one is forcing you to watch it!

  • Home Town

Controversial I know but are people who live in the suburbs lacking in ambition.

I went back to my hometown in South London Wallington.  What used to be a great little village but actually now I think of it probably just an incubator for unambitious people who want for nothing more in life than they grew up with.

Of course there is nothing wrong with this but I always thought it strange as a human race to not want to better yourself.  It is almost in built for our survival and explains evolution.

Except when I was back there, nothing had changed, the same old people doing the same old things like time stood still.

Strange but made me feel grateful for where I am and the things I have seen.  For every new learning i feel it makes us much more tolerating of the world.  I wonder if in the burbs is where the misguided views on racism and sexuality come from.

I have never felt so scared in my life than when I lived there because I was singled out my whole life due to my race.  This happens less so in the town and that feeling is priceless.
